A working manuscript: physics, code & liturgy from the desk of Reverend Steven Milanese — Autodidactic Polymath, Natural Philosopher, Minister, Systems Alchemist. One inquiry conducted at every energy scale.
The challenge
A working manuscript — physics, code and liturgy from one desk — spread across a blog, published papers with a DOI, a ministry, an archive of older writing and a terminal for the curious, had to read as one inquiry on one site, be found by search engines and machine readers alike, and keep every old URL alive.
The approach
An Astro 6 site on Bun, static-first: papers with mathematics set at build time, a Pagefind index for search with no server, feeds in every format including BibTeX and llms.txt, and a catch-all redirect for the previous site's addresses. The one thing that writes — the guestbook — is its own small service on Redis, isolated from the static site and restorable on its own. Accessibility is checked in the test run, not by hand.

stevenmilanese.com is a working manuscript: physics, code and liturgy from the desk of Reverend Steven Milanese — autodidactic polymath, natural philosopher, minister, systems alchemist. The brief was one site that reads as one inquiry, for people and for machines.
What’s running
An Astro 6 site on the Bun runtime, static output: the blog, the papers, the ministry, the archive, the biography and the shelf all prerender at build time. Fonts (EB Garamond, IBM Plex Mono, VT323) are self-hosted; there are no third-party runtime requests.
Search without a server
Pagefind indexes the whole manuscript at build time and answers in the browser. There is no search service to run, scale or secure.
Papers as papers
Mathematics is set with KaTeX at build time, so the reader receives typeset HTML. The papers are listed in a BibTeX file, and the published essay carries its Zenodo DOI on the page.
Feeds for every reader
RSS, Atom and JSON feeds for people; llms.txt and llms-full.txt for machine readers; a sitemap for the crawlers. All from the same content, in the same build.
The one thing that writes
The guestbook is its own small service on Redis, apart from the static site. It is backed up, restored and moved on its own — which it has been.
Nothing lost
Every address from the previous site resolves through a catch-all redirect map. Accessibility is checked with axe in the test run, and the VT100 terminal is there for the curious.
